oooo they are all so lovely! I have been trying for ages to get my phone camera software to work but it won't. My friend has a slovakian and i dog sat for them recently.

He is a one year old male, and is a lovely boy. He and Tonks (my 5 month old SBT) are now in the same class in dog training and we have to sit far apart from each other because other wise all they want to do is play with each other!

    Hiya,

Grey will be 11 weeks old tomorrow. Time has flown and stood still at the same time!

Amazing how different all these pooches look isn't it! I wonder if Grey will be incredibly hairy seeing as he was hairy at 4 weeks!

If they are anything like GWP's (which a third of them is!) then yes, the more coat they have when pups, the more they will have when adult. Flynn had no beard or eyebrows when I picked him up at 8 weeks and now, only has facial trimmings, his coat is very close on the rest of his body.

So, how are all our SRHP's today?

Grey doesn't think much to the rain and is sleeping off a morning trip to the shops.

    Hi,

Thought others might be interested to know that after 5 weeks of more or less constant runny poo that he tested positive for the parasite Giardia and campylobacter bacterial infection. Both of these are potentially life threatening and can be passed to humans. The vet says he doesn't have very many cases of these, so quite unusual.

If anyone wants to contact me if they have a similar experience please do so. I remember one pup on here that was ill in the beginning.

He also has quite a serious bit fault that the vet has said he hasn't seen for years. His bottom jaw is undershot and his canines press into his upper gums, creating little holes. We had been told they get their teeth early and that he might need help removing some milk teeth, but not that he had this fault. We're inexperienced and so didn't notice till the vet pointed it out. He may need to see a specialist canine orthodontist.

All of this has cost us lots of trips to the vet, endless picking up runny poo and quite scarily not realising he could have been very poorly indeed. We did have one scary trip to the emergency vet vet at 9 weeks with a temp of over 40, but we didn't realise what it was, so he just had a first dose of anti-biotics.

Other than this, he's lovely and full of beans. Love him to bits. I was told that only he has been ill and no others, but what with the other bitch puppy having runs too, that doesn't seem right to me. I heard of another puppy that was ill in April.

Both these infections require disinfecting of outside spaces and have to be careful around babies and children.

    Hi Lou,

I hope Grey is feeling better now, he has had a bad start poor boy.
You feed Grey the "raw meat diet" I dont know if you are aware that campylobacter bacterial infection is linked with raw poultry.
Also the Giardia parasite can come from eating uncooked food contaminated with the parasite.
There is a lot of information on the internet by highly qualified professional people, it is eye opening, just google it.

    HI
Freya is now 15 weeks old and still suffers from the runs. I have taken her to the vet again today and she is having tests run to see if she too has the parasites and infection.
She has lost nearly all her teeth, broken one which is slightly infected [vet says it should fall out by itself in the next couple of days] and is not giving her any pain. She is not quite so boitrous today after a run in with a border terrier in the park yesterday. Sleeping well virtually all day. Picking up ticks around her eye so is being sprayed tomorrow. [Wormed again today]
I'm sure she'll be bounding around again tomorrow. She is so easy, loves training and fetch is her favourite game.
Hope every ones dogs are well.
    Take care all

    Hi Eskababe,

Thanks for your post. I started Grey on raw foods after he tested positive for the infections. He was on Orijen complete food (large breed puppy) then cooked chicken and rice at the time of the tests, then stayed on cooked till his poop firmed up on the meds. He was then moved to human grade raw foods later. He's had firm poo ever since and is now just finishing his meds off.

I can honestly say he's much much better now than he was for the first month.

    Hi D,

I'm sorry to hear that Freya still has the runs. I'm glad you're running the tests. It will hopefully help you tick off the list what could be causing them or at least narrow the field.

Has she had the runs constantly since you got her?

My vet had agreed to run tests as he said it really wasn't normal for Grey to have the runs for the length of time that he did. Grey's runs stopped immediately that he started the antibiotics (his second course unfortunately).

Are you a member of the breed club? They were very nice when I called them.

How is Freya's bite apart from the infected tooth? I'm wondering how rare Grey's teeth alignment is.

Apart from the runny poo nightmare, we've been having loads of fun. We're enjoying the clicker training and I'm doing a puppy foundation course before going on the kennel club good citizen bronze. Might have to wait until he gets the all clear from this last round of tests and meds though.

I'm thinking of doing gun dog training too. I think he'll like it.

If you would like to PM me, I'd be happy to swap email addresses/experiences.

    Hi Lou/Eska
I don't have enough posts to pm anybody -sorry. Still new to forums and don't fully understand them yet. Vet checked teeth but could only say about infected one as she has very few at the moment.
I have joined Breed Club but have yet to receive any paperwork.
She has probably has as little as 10 days without the runs in the 8 weeks since I got her.
What is the puppy foundation course, that sounds interesting?

    D,

so her baby teeth don't press into the gums like I described about Grey's? Do you remember if her front teeth meet or not?

The runs are really hard work. Grey stabalised instantly on boiled chicken and rice along with antibiotics. It was over night success and it made all the difference.

    Hi Ros & Holly,
I hope you & your dogs are doing well. These are the pictures of multi CH Ansona Arabella at Stormdancer ( Nettle ) which I promised you, I know its not as good as seeing her in real life.
Have you got any pictures of Maggies mum or family? I would love to see them.
