ok fair enough they may have been a responsible owner but that could have been any breed of dog? it's not just staffies that are dog aggressive? just as an example i was out walking my staffy on the weekend when a woman was out walking past me with 2 west highland terriers and they were going mental trying to get at my dog i'm not saying they would have had a chance but if one of them escaped from the house it could easily attack another dog and considering how mad they were going trying to get to my little boy i expect they could do some serious damage to a placid dog who was scared?

Oh Completley!!!!! Its just my own "personal" bad experince was with a staff thats all & it has coloured my preception of them alittle. I know alot of people that have had TONS of bad experinces with Collies for instance.

I have never owned one but I have so far only met nice friendly ones but they are owned by the right sort of people.
We do however have a couple of nasty ones on our estate that have attacked other dogs but it seems morons own them.I have not met them as yet and hope not too.
Met one the other day and the man who owned him asked if we were keeping Ollie on his long line and was explaining that if his dog was off he would run up to him and want to play but not hurt him I said thats fine.Anyway we kept our dogs on their lead and met up in the middle of the field and let them meet all ok he was saying a Staffie had attacked a Springer in the town and it was same colouring as his Staffie and he had been out with his dog and got stopped by the Police and questioned and he is now terrified people will misundertand his dog when it plays with others.
The other people whose dog attacked run off.
I think that is very sad for the responsible owners of Staffies.

there is no need to be scare of saying the wrong thing, we are not pointing fingers at one breed or another.
Its just some people think because the dog is a bull breed than its bad and will attack anything, what people are trying to point out that any breed can attack.
its the deed, and not the whole breed ;-)

This breed is very often misunderstood, they can be excellent family pets, not very good if you want a dog to guard your house when you'r not in, very people friendly

I know this scenario too well!!! I think china's previous owners just hadnt socialised her with many dogs but after a lot of training from us she is great with the majority of dogs EXCEPT collies and schnauzers!

some collies she is ok with but most do the whole eyeing thing and thats it she wont have it! so before it gets to that stage we are trying to stop them staring at each other, breaking the tension and rewarding her if she is good....mayget there one day!

Ive always had staffies..i was hooked from the day i rescued my first staffie well over 10 years ago!
I have a staffie and a yorkie..my yorkie is boss! staffies love people, its just if a poodle [hey nothing against poodles i luv them]..but if a poodle or a lab bit a person it wouldnt get half as much bad press as if a staffie bit a person!
its wrong for any dog to bite i know that..im just saying staffies and bull breeds have it hard before they have even begun.
You always get your idiots who want a dog for status reasons and they are among the idiotic people that are ruining this and other fab bredds/breed reputations.
[my last staffie oscar he was so gentle when i brought the yorkie home she fit into my hand she was so tiny n he loved her and played so gently with her it was so heart warming to witness.]

Chris Jones - you really look at the breed and decide whether to cross the road or not? That doesnt make sense? So you are walking up a to an obviously scared / aggressive poodle (sorry poodle lovers!!!)....but you would walk straight past it to avoid the placid stafford on the other side of the road? Thats so stupid its laughable!!! Dont you think that mind-set is dangerous?

It reminds me of the time I passed a bloke with two pedigrees - with my mums rescue crossbreeds and he shouted - get them away from me, mongrels should be kept on a short leash.... which they were.... and walking nicely. Needless to say, I flipped him the bird

Staffies are wonderful dogs. I have a 2 month old staff and he is the best puppy anyone could ask for. The breed is not what should be punished, it is the people that make them nasty not their breed!!

That reminds me of the time we got told to put our staffys down on the park by an old man with two scottie dogs!!! Sorry but they are the sort of dog that barks and growls at me dogs!! The old bloke goes on and on saying bully breeds should all be put to sleep this made me mad and my husband was very upset....Silly really as i had part of my ear bitten off by a poodle..........

Great breed of dogs, wouldn't change them for the world.Better behaved than some kids these days. You have a chance to survive from a bite. What chance do you have against a gang of kids with knives and guns.I will take me chance with a staffy any day.
