Haha. It needed a break! Tally has spotted her breeder at the ringside. She's still a little tubby, maybe having her spayed was not my best idea. Still a work in progress.
We all know that weight standards are written by men who have no idea what it's like to be a young lady trying to maintain her waist in the midst of so much temptation. She is a perfect shape and shouldn't be held to such silly standards.
Sounds like Tally is really enjoying both the mental and physical challenge. Nose work can be so rewarding for dogs and owners.
Tally is a one off as a Beagle. I have to find things for her to do or she would be happy to sleep her life away and grow fat. (Yes, she has been tested for low thyroid hormones). Her passion is searching, whether for articles, or people and other dogs. She is a really good girl to live with - too well behaved to be a hound.
Trailing again this weekend. A good report, so.I think we are ready to try for our next assessment. Locating our lost person. Can't load the one of Tally mugging her target person for a sausage! Me doing my bit by being a moving target for one of the others in the group.
Today was Tally's Intermediate Pet Trail Assessment! This test is a 600 yard trail which has been aged for over an hour. The location was my choice, so I chose to be tested at a location that has appeared in my photos a couple of times previously. As Tally had an aged trail she was the last one to work and she let everyone know that these were not the conditions that she was used to - especially when I left the group to act as misper for another dog to trail! When Tally's trail had aged she finally got out of the car and was given scent from a Poodle poo - you could practically see her lip curl in disgust. Weather conditions were good but there were sooo many dogs and infants out today. Only natural that if they spot a dog in the distance they must wonder if this is going to be their target. She didn't stop, but thought that she should be checking. She handled her first junction well - which had a decoy leg, and then had a length where we were following a toddler with two adults. What to do? Hold back and wait, but they were moving quite slowly, or ask whether you could pass? I chose to hold back. At Tally's second junction she actually turned onto a path parallel to the one that she should have taken, but arrived at the same finishing point! Scent travelling through the hedge? Who knows but her work was judged to be good enough to get her qualification. Phew! Not letting me load a photo, will try tomorrow.
I confess, to get a bit of interest from Tally, I used the command, 'nose touch'. I have been teaching 'nose touch' and 'foot touch' this week. Right and left paw will take a little longer, she is still R/L confused poor girl. Ha ha sneaked another one in! Negotiating a junction. Back to being a show girl next week.
I got as far as "I have been teaching 'nose touch' and 'foot touch' this week. Right and left paw will take a little longer, she is still R/L confused poor girl." Blinked. Read it again and told Tikva, who was curled up in her nest on the couch, that I was going to send her to you for a bit of training! She gave me the stink-eye and turned round so she had her back to me!
