Hi. Was wondering, for those who have/have met mini schnauzers, what are they like generally? I've just been walking one for it's owner and it's a scaredy cat (very badly, but can be won over by treats thankfully), and it is VERY stubborn. If she doesn't want to walk a certain way, she just digs her paws in (that doesn't wash with me though). Thanks
I have owned three and they have all been totally different in character The things they had in common was their confidence, loving natures, cleanliness and stubborness. The only yappy one I had was Tegan - but Leo my male rarely barks, even when someone knocks on the door.
We have a mini schnauzer - as the previous poster has said they're not all the same, but ours is nervous of new people, and growls at other dogs. I'm fact we've come back from a dog training holiday earlier this week which has worked wonders, still early days but huge improvement which we'll keep working on. I know other people who have minis though, who have no such issues with other dogs, and are very happy go lucky (but strong minded) so I don't think the issues Coco has are necessarily a breed thing (more that he wasn't properly socialised when he was a pup)
There are quite alot of them around here When asked about them I always remember my friends tiny one, bouncing off the floor to shout in the face of a confused dobie (before my friend managed to grab hold of him) They are lovely, smart, fun and feisty, the ones I have met
I have owned Mini Schnauzers since 1990, and my present one is black and he's 2, I love the breed, easiness of training, the big character in a small body, they are very clean, very social, some yappy, some quiet, I have a quiet one, and they are the only dogs with back leg anchors, and boy when they don't want to move they sure won't. I would never have any other breed. They come in 4 colours of Pepper and Salt, Black, White and Black and Silver. They come in 3 sizes Giant, Standard and Mini. They are classed under Utility group when shown at Crufts. I think about 3 or 4 years ago a Giant Schnauzer called Phillip won at Crufts
I would agree with that having owned and worked with Mini's since the early 1960s so for almost 50 years . My current Mini Chloe is the most stubborn I have ever known, her sire came from the USA so this may be something to do with her coming from completely different lines to those I am used to. If she decides she isn't going to go for a walk in a certain direction in the field she won't and stops dead She is full of character though and I wouldn't have her any other way.
I see a mini called Alfie hes generaly well behaved but when he sees my dogs he always comes over for a play regardless of which way his owner is going
