Whats your staffy like with other dogs ??

Greg is friendly with all dogs:grin: , he has never shown aggression towards another dog even when he has actually been attacked, He still just wants to play.
Every discussion I have been in recently has resulted in people saying staffies are dog aggressive,
I just wondered what other peoples staffies are like with other dogs?? Is mine a weirdo!!??! LOL!

We've never had any problems with Staffies. The only dog that ever went for Cassie was a husky type dog.

All 3 dogs I've owned have been attacked by Staffies and most of the Staffies I know are dog aggressive to a degree. Some will lunge for any dog they see, some just attack if another dog invades their space. Met a few who weren't aggressive but all of those were younger dogs. How much of it depends on how they're raised I don't know. Most of the Staffs I know are owned by the typical skin headed thug who want their dogs to be "vicious" so encourage it. Can say I've only met one who was iffy with humans though and he was a severely abused one and was absolutely terrified.

 Me too,Greg is a great name.

Anyway back on topic. For those of you that don't know,i rescued Ossie and was very cautious with him.But he was fine with all other dogs.Until he was attacked in the local woods by a large AmStaff that some moron was walking off lead. This dog had attacked before(and since). Anyway Ossie is now dog aggressive he doesn't know how to play anymore. If another dog approaches he wags his tail and goes into play mode but seems to forget after a minute. Then up go the hackles and the growling starts.I am trying to train him out of this, but it seems to be taking time.We will get there im sure.

Greg is similar, he loves all dogs but if one barks at him he doesnt know what to do with himself, he never barks back!

    Thats such a shame:cry: ,
Greg has been attacked a couple of times once where he had chunks of fur out of his face, but he still wanted to play! I dont think he realised the other dog wasnt playing, I think Greg's urge to play and his big smile might make other dogs uneasy, but he always aproaches other dogs tail wagging, big staffy smile, bounding around like hes still a little puppy, im sure he will grow out of it, I just hope he always remains as friendly as he is!
By the way off subject Ossie is an absolutely :smt007 gorgeous dog, I wanna just give him a big cuddle!

Greg is a cool name ! How old is he ? Missy is 2 and a half and just wants to play with all dogs. She thinks every dog and human were put on this earth just so she has lots of friends to play with . She's been attacked by a border collie and a springer spaniel and didn't try to fight back , even though the springer bit hard enough to break skin.

I must admit that my first staffy, Lara was a nasty piece of work with other dogs but she had been severly abused as a pup.

Jas was okay with other dogs and the only time i saw the nasty side of him was when he was attacked by a JRT.

The others I've owned (tam1, tam2) were also great with other dogs but hated cats with a passion. Tilly my current dog is a complete softie with dogs, cats and people but have noticed she's not happy with a big bullmastiff who lives down the road and will raise her hackles if he's about.

    Hi Guys

My dog Otis (2 year old staffy) is really good with other dogs. He loves to play rough and tumble but is no way aggressive.

I have him on the lead most of the time and when he sees a dog bigger than him, he sometimes gets a bit scared and lays on the floor! Either that or tries to wriggle inbetween my legs!!!

Once he has had a good 'ol sniff of them he just wants to play! Most of the time howver, he sniffs the dog to make sure its ok then wants to play with its owner more!!!

Otis is definately more a people dog though! Everytime he stays at our regular kennels, he goes out to play with the other dogs, but after about 10 mins all he wants to do is sit on the kennel maids lap!!! (very typical staffy)!!

Here is a picture of him with his best friend simba - my sister-in-laws newfoundland!!

As with all dogsit depends on their history.
My first staffy was attacked by a lab when she was a pup and since that day she was a sod with any dogs except one, who was another staffy that she had a soft spot for. She Never shown him any aggression.
With the ones I have now, one is great with other dogs. another is really friendly and rolls over the min another dog comes near. Unfortunetly whilst doing this he has been attacked by a jack russell, a collie and a cocker spaniel( all on seperate incidents), not once has he shown any aggression back. The other is a pup and is great if she has room, if she is cornered(by this i mean, if she is on her lead and a loose strange dog approaches) you can see that she is nervous and she jumps up at you for reassurance.
I don`t know why because she has always been with other dogs of all shapes and sizes.
The problem is if the dog isn`t socialised or feels threatened or has some sort of medical problem. In my experience with staffs(over 17 years) they seldom start a fight, but when in one they can do a lot of damage.

Mainly its being a responsible owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just love the name Greg!! He kinda has a look of my baby *Paddy*!!

We took Paddy to socialisation classes as soon as he had his vaccinations. He mixed well with other dogs and people from the start. He is really good with other dogs and just wants to play. My mum has a Jack Russell and brings him occasionally and he loves it, they go mental running around.

Your right they do look alike! We didnt take Greg to any classes because most in our area advertise as 'no bull breeds' but there is loads of parks around here and he has met loadsa dogs and has lots of friends to play with!

I tend to be slightly wary of Staffies, as so many are dog-aggressive ... brilliant with people, but not so good with other dogs. The only dog that ever attacked my first GSD (and held on too!!) was a Staffie :-( However, that was over 5 years ago and since then I haven't really had any problem with aggressive dogs - Staffies or otherwise. I have to say though that in the area I now live most dog owners seem to be pretty responsible and if their dog is a problem it is generally kept on the lead.

where is lune valley im sure ive heard of it before moobli if u dont mind me asking

Its good to be aware of staffords with other animal, they are wonderfully loving with humans, but with thier instinct they can be agressive with other animals, shame owners dont understand that, lets hope they do because we dont need any more media coverage!

hi guys i have 2 staffys molly and kahn..
molly will attack if provoked by another dog, but kahn is very unsociable he will attack any dog, i dont know why he does it, all the staffs i have met have been this way yet there fantastic with humans..
i cant stand taking him out when there is another dog about.
yet if he is distratcted he is non the wiser.
i thought castrating him would help but not a dickie bird..
you want to be thankfull you got a lovely staff that doesnt attack other dogs, as mine is an embarrasment when he does
