    I have 4 staffords.
One is very dog aggressive, no growling nothing if a dog comes close enough she'll grab it:? .

And yes she WAS socialized with other dogs from a very young age, but one thing i noticed with her was she did'nt want to play with other dogs, was quite happy doing her own thing. At the age of 4mths she decked another puppy up the park because it barked at her  .
As she got older she got into a few fights, but now i refuse to take her any where near a park as its up to me to keep her out of trouble.
This same nutter is brilliant with young pups brought into the home  she carries on like their mother

My male is now a cocky 1 yr old:? And would cause trouble by his cockyness around other dogs, so his kept away.
My other female is fine if left alone, and young Sky is still a pup  .

What gets my back up is other dog owners with dogs off the lead, wether in the park or along the street. With the dogs lead hanging round their necks like a fashion accessory  .

A Stafford was a fighting breed, this is what it was bred for. Its in their blood like it or not.
Its upto you as the owner of these dogs to know their body language and avoid situations that will spark them off

Our very first staffie way back in the 70's was only Dog aggressive with dogs larger than himself ie: Boxers Alsations etc anything his size or smaller he got very embrassed if they went for him lol he adored ppl and children and was the ideal nanny dog with babies
Our last staffie who passed away 2005 never liked any dog or cats and was always kept on the lead he too was a big softie with ppl

Hi, I have a Staff bitch called Calla (exactly 1 year old) & a Bull Terrier called Archie (13 months old). Calla is very eager to meet people & dogs all the time, although I don`t let her meet dog`s when on the leash because she might get tangled up with them( she tends to pull to meet people & dogs). Never seen any dog aggression from her, her & Archie partake in terrier rough play frequently but that is just fun.
My first Bull Terrier was taught not to bite & wouldn`t even play tug with a rope for very long. Basically he got attacked by a collie once, & just stood there didn`t flinch, or make a noise, took hold of the collie, let go & turned round & looked at me as if to say " I didn`t bite him". I ended up having to remove the collie from his ear by other methods, it even came back for more till deterred.
After that my first dog wouldn`t ask any questions if a collie came up to him. Never let him run free after that. But he was the friendliest dog I`ve seen with people, magnified ten fold with children.

my 3 bitches get on with any dog, ive had them all well socialised from pups even my deaf one infact shes the most sociable lol

my male we didnt get till he was about 15 months and he hates other dogs approaching him. i can, however, walk him with my friends dogs etc and hes fine but if a loose dog runs up to him he would go for it and to be honest i dont blame him. if someone was to run up to you and you had no idea of their intention wouldnt you want to defend yourself? he is never off the lead to be able to go for another dog but if some idiot walks their dog off lead and it approaches him then on their head be it.

i feel very strongly about this and could go on forever but will stop now

my staffie is only DA when on the lead, if he is allowed of the lead with other dogs he is great and plays like mad a little rough play sometimes but nothing to do any harm, he was attacked by a GSD while on the lead when he was around 8/9 months old and has never broke the habbit of being DA on the lead even now 10 years later

Saffie is great with all dogs she just wants to play! we took her to puppy classes all this "a staff was a fighting dog and it's in it's blood" makes me mad!!! sorry I don't meen to offend but lots of studies have been done and it has been found that NO breed of dog is Predisposed to be dog aggresive or any type of aggresive! I'll search for the link and post it if I can find it! It is, in my opinion, how you bring them up. Yes some dogs just don't like other dogs! but this can occur in any breed.

Bobbles is very friendly with other dogs, but like the others if they bark at her she gets scared, and if one has a go at her she'll back right off, she's had a go at one dog, it was a Staffx puppy and it was grabbing her neck and ears, she took it for quite a while before she had had enough and had a go at it and gave it a telling off, this is the only time she's done this, and it happened to her a few times when she was a pup so I think it was more of an adult dog putting a pup in its place, she's never been aggressive with any other dog as I think she enjoys playing with them too much, I find where I live theres more aggressive GSD's than any other breed, I just hope my Staff stays the friendly happy dog she is now:)

    Hi Sky,
I agree that most of them aren't dog aggressive if not provocated, I think the difference is when a fight starts, unfortunately mine, dog and bitch, had some fight between them in the past and it was something shocking.
You can't believe what a "little" dog can do when angry.
Now it seems to be ok and I can say that my dog is friendly and my bitch isn't very interested at other dogs, but she doesn't like other dogs too close but with puppies is very different

My seren is only young, 21 weeks, she loves other dogs, thinks there all her friends.
I'm hopeing she'll stay like this, unfortunatly alot of people cross the road when they see I have Seren which is so annoying, staffords can be dog aggressive but I'm not suprised when the magority of people won't let there dog near one

My staffy is not really agressive to other dogs but sometimes when he first meets a new dog he can be a bit agresive but after a bit he gets along great with them and goes off and plays

My brothers staffy bitch (who's getting on now) is a total softy, she even got beat up by a cat a few months ago!!

The front door was open and there was a cat just outside, the staff went over all tails a wagging to go play, and the ginger cat wacked her on the nose - poor dog came running back in tail between her legs!

My two are fine with other dogs. Jaz my bitch was attacked when she was little (like 12 weeks) by another staffie which the women had no control over. It scared her and she hated other dogs just ran away from them but she got over it with training and she does not really care about other dogs she meets on her walks. A dog really has to pester her before she tells it to bog off and that is all mouth. The times she has gone for and attacked another dog was the two times other dogs attacked my bichon and thank god Jaz did have the other dogs or I would no longer have a bichon. She nearly attacked a dog the other day because it was attacking my skye but it backed down when it saw Jaz's teeth and went back to the owner (who did nothing by the way to stop their dog attacking mine). My other staffie gets beat up by my friends dogs all the time and one in a tiny JRT he likes some dogs i.e. wants to play with them and some he is far too busy being a boy and weeing up stuff or chasing rabbits to be bothered by another dog even if it is attacking him he doesn't seem to notice, but then again he doesnt seem to notice much inbetween meal times.

What bugs me is the people that let their dog run roit and cause trouble for everyone else and then if my staffies have a go back it is all my fault of course drives me mad really really mad.

i can canfirm the staffies i've met (apart from those owned by idiots - which isnt the dogs fault!) have been lovely dogs. I agree any dog can be aggressive, every other kelpie apart from Ziggie i've met is lovely and friendly, Ziggie has always been happy to fight and gives no warning, any introduction to knew dogs is done carefully. After alot of work (four years worth!), he can now meet other dogs as long as they dont force themselves on him!

Danny can be funny with other dogs. I'm sure he's actually insecure and this comes out as a bit of aggression. If he's on the lead, he can be aggressive, but if he's off lead - he seems not too bad. So long as the other dog doesn't get dominant then it's usually fine. Before we moved house, there was a HUGE female rottie that he used to have a good old rough and tumble with. It was great to watch.

I never let him off the lead in public places JUST INCASE.

And yes, people cross the road when they see us coming
