Not that I would EVER encourage my staffs to be nasty to anyone or anything and I did not choose to own staffs for any other reason than a love of the breed, but I am quite pleased when people get out of my way due to a fear of my dogs. I much prefer dogs to people and am more than happy to be left alone. I am far more anti-social than my dogs (bar my Skye who hates people). In fact I have a wonderfully fenced garden at no cost to myself as all my neighbours put up 7ft fencing about 2 months after my frist staff came to live here.

Our staffy is also our first ever dog and I was really nervous about taking her out and meeting up with other dogs after hearing people say they are known to be dog aggressive.
We got her from a rescue and so had no idea what she was like with other dogs ...
Well we live right by the sea and so alot of people bring their dogs here to walk them and she has met collies, siberian huskies, Japanese akita, alsations, staffies, mongrels, westies and lots of other breeds I dont have a clue about, lol. (some when she's on lead and some when she's off).
She has been friendly with them all and just wants to play, it's been lovely to see.
The only problems seem to have been a few Jack Russells. Although most people with that type of dog seem to put them on a lead when they get near other dogs, so then there isn't any problem, but we have had a few snarl and snap near her. She hasn't reacted to them so far.
What would happen if one went to attack her I don't know, but I don't think she'd start anything herself.

Unfortunately the two times my three have been attacked... whilst they are all on lead are by off lead staffies. The second occasion it had it`s sights on little Mia... and was determined to get her... luckily for us the owner managed to grab it in time.... i shudder to think what may have been

This happened to Missy too . She's terrified of cats now. If she sees one through the window , she's all big and brave pretending she wants to chase it. If there's one in the garden , and we have a lot of cats living around here , she won't go outside until the cat has gone. Even then , she'll carefully check it's gone before she goes into the garden. Any sign of a cat , and she comes scarpering back into the house , faster than a greyhound , with her tail between her legs. With other dogs , she's great.

My daughter has a male Staffie, Diesel, who is just over a year and he is a wee woose. He is very friendly with other dogs and gets along fine at the training club with all sorts of dogs. He loves playing with Boobah's Asta and has got along fine with our Rotties at the club. I don't put him under pressure at our house though. If he visits I tend to keep him away from our lot because they overwhelm him and he becomes a bit frightened. I don't think it would be fair to him as there are so many of them and they are so much bigger than him. He is just a wee spud.

The problem with some Staffies are the owners who make them aggressive and this can be done with most breeds of dogs. DON'T blame the dogs blame the bad nutter owners. Lastly it's a shame we only ever see the bad publicity about all breeds of dogs, especially these types, and never the good

I think it all depends on the owner.
There breed can be aggresive, but not if they have been socialised well.
I have nothing but good to say about them, they are lovely dogs and very loyal.

I have no probs with Staffies, my last setter had a Staffie boyfriend, called Bosun, he was a lovely dog, sooooo friendly, but he hated boy dogs.... jamie and I meet Staffies in the field and one has sort of growled, but that was the owner not the dogs fault I think... The only dog that has ever gone for my boy, has actually been a Springer spaniel... Jamie was only 4mths old as well..

I never had any probs with staffies, in fact, when I lived in Suffolk, my girls used to play with one on a walk we used to go on!

    I love staffies, I think they're a gorgeous breed!!!!

I don`t let my dogs greet other dogs on the leash after somebody asked if my 1st bull terrier was friendly (he was at that time) & could her dog meet him. Only thing was she didn`t control her rescue collie & allowed him to get tangled in his leash which made her dog nervous & then lash out (it was this amongst other things that helped turn him iffy with certain
breeds of dogs, none prompted by him).

I've got an irish staff from the dogs home.He is ok till a dog goes for him, then he lets them know.At the moment he is being bullied with my boxer cross. But never has a proper go back.Just a snarl and alot of noise. Both dogs are 18 months old. It's like any dog some are dog friendly, some aren't.Love the name Greg.

Had Bruno up in the forest a few weeks ago, usually i don't let him off the lead as he ignores recall. There were no one about so i thought i ain't going train him recall if i don't let him off the lead. The car park is about half an hours walk away but you can see it as its sat on a hill.So their he was off lead,no probs came back when called.I could hear a car door shut in the distance,an like a shot Bruno was off.I could see the car and occupants in the distance 2 collies and their owner. With in minutes Bruno was up to them. There i am heart pumping, knees rattling away on full sprint calling Bruno.Gets up to the collie owner and his dogs.Full of remorse,in fact sh.....g myself, looking at a prison sentence. All sorts going through my head. The guy asked if this was my cheerful staffy. There was Bruno playing away with the collies. But things could of been reversed.Asked what kind of staff he was,i was honest an said irish. He just laughed an said wait till i tell me misses.Eh what about me.I was panicking like mad.Now he just does not get off the lead.He starts training school this Monday.Plz don't laugh it weren't funny.

My staffy is 6 yrs old and is the most friendly dog you could imagine. She loves other dogs and will cry and cry when she sees them....She just wants to play soooo much.

I gave in, in the end and brought her a companion and now have two fantastic dogs....

My 2 are generally fine with other dogs, unless they have their space invaded by them running up offlead.Candy is fine when i walk her on her own, but will bark at other dogs as a greeting.Buddy isn't overkeen on other large, or offlead dogs, but as long as they don't run up to him he's fine.
He once had a bad experience when a jrt attacked him as a pup :-(
I do keep them on lead at all times though, due to the media hype and stereotypical views about staffs. If they were ever attacked they would fight to the death and then get blamed, and I can't ever risk that:-(
