Well I didnt think they were either till I stewarded a companion show and half the gundog display team marched into the ring for any HPR and said they were now classed as HPR :D

Really? I just searched Google and couldn't find anything that says they have been reclassified as a HPR.

Hmm, I smell BS there! it is a fairly big deal for a breed to be reclassified. I would expect details of such a thing to be on the breed clubs website, gundog websites, etc. As I can't see anything of a sort, I don't believe it.

Normally wouldnt have stood for it but they were all from discover dogs and the display team. They do hunt and retrieve but never seen one on point. I'm at Yorks Gamefair in a few weeks I'll make surreptitious enquiries lol.

    Spaniel: Clumber
    Retriever: Labrador
    Setter: Irish Red and White
    HPR: Large Munsterlander

………but I'd have a B/W Springer and a Wire Vizsla any day of the week! :D

Spaniel: Gotta be a Springer - I own half a one so I am biased.

Retriever: Newfie, I love the size and have seen them on a local lake doing water recoveries or a Toller mainly cos they aren't that popular in the UK.

Setter: Irish or Gordon - they look fab!

HPR: Slovak - Love Labradorks and Leanne's half a one

Although I wouldn't mind getting another ESS x Lab - Louie's turning into a brilliant dog.

Could be wrong, but I think the Newfoundland is in the working class SLB - I know it is not in with the retrievers.

The IWS is classified as a Spaniel for showing purposes but competes in Retriever Field Trials does it not?

Ah that might be it, unless of course the classes for HPR are smaller ;)

I think the SWD people are trying to get them classified into the HPR sub group if I remember correctly.
