We are looking for a stud for our female min pin. She is just over a year old and started her 2nd heat. She comes from a long line of solid lineage. Only full blooded and document studs need reply. Dallas Ft. Worth Area Please
....at just over a year old, isn't she still just a baby herself?? She may be more or less mature physically, but mentally she won't be. At such a young age, has she been fully screened and tested clear for genetic health issues?
Hi Josh427, It is highly unusual for the owner of a stud dog to be asked to apply to mate your, (presumably heath evaluated), bitch. The normal process would be that you would study her pedigree, deciding which points you hoped to improve, and attend some breed shows to try and evaluate which bloodlines were most likely to give you the results you desired. Take some photos and the bitch's pedigree with you, and have a talk to some of the exhibitors after the judging finishes. When you have made your decision, you would then contact the stud owner, and ask whether they would allow this dog to be used on your bitch. I would expect the owner to want to see your bitch, and a copy of her pedigree. They usually do agree, but occasionally, either because they have a deeper knowledge of the breed, or because the dog is already booked for that period, they might suggest an alternative. It might be a good move to join the American Min Pin Club - or at least to visit their website - where you should find lots of photos and contact details.
Yes she is still a baby but she is fully registered and cleared. She comes from a long solid line of min pins. We are just looking to find another full bred min pin to possibly mate with her. She is going through her second heat now. She is a beautiful puppy. My whole reason for posting this is so that I can learn more information about the breeding process.
I would never have a bitch mated before they have had at least 4 seasons [around 2 years old for small breeds] this will ensure she has mature physically on the inside [womb] otherwise she might have problems delivering the puppies, if she's mated before she's 2 years old.
As you have said yourself she is still a baby, so why the rush to breed her? If you got her from a reputable breeder they should be able point you in the right direction and advise you if she is good enough for breeding, what stud would be suitable, health tests ect:
