I want someone who is gentle, experienced with large breeds, and can handle everything from baths to haircuts. Bonus if they offer nail trimming and ear cleaning as part of their service. I’m also concerned about the overall hygiene of the grooming facility. Does anyone have personal recommendations or experiences with local groomers? Any tips on what to look for when choosing a groomer would also be really helpful.
For a Golden, I’d definitely look for someone who has experience with double-coated breeds, not just general grooming. A lot of issues come from groomers treating them like doodles and over-trimming or not handling the undercoat properly. If you can, visit the place first. Check how clean it is, how the dogs look when they come out, and how the staff interacts with them. A good groomer will be calm, not rushed, and willing to talk through what they do. Also ask if they use crate drying or hand drying. Some dogs don’t do well in crates. Nail trimming and ear cleaning are pretty standard, but it’s still worth confirming upfront.
