I too was surprised at how small they were.

I met the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog for the first time at DD yesterday - what GORGEOUS dogs they were!

I was smitten and kept going back to them :)

They are a relatively new breed from what I was told at Crufts this year. Gene pool is still quite small...

Wow, there were only 6 puppies registered last year, and none so far this year

I met one at PAH a while back, the owners were very impressed I guessed the breed, I had no idea they were so uncommon!

    Maybe rare = expensive ..
And people have so many choices of breed ..

I guess that could be true if there is demand - but when I got my buhund I found they were cheaper than a well bred gsd for example and I thought that was perhaps because there is less demand for the breed so they don't comand such a price.
I wonder how much they are?!

I don't think you would see much if any changge from a £1000 at least.

There are some sites and looked on the breed club site but not giving any prices which isn't surprising and a good thing.

Buying a dog is generally only a minor expense in terms of how much a dog costs over a lifetime anyway so I never think its a bad thing .. although frenchies at 2000 seems a bit steep!

I think our bernese cost about that anyway 9 years ago and they're not as rare.

My dogs passed their temperament tests at the day hosted by the GSMD peeps. Was it Kimberley at DD?
