I'm with you totally on that one V...bloomin' ridiculous!

And apparently the EU are going to do the same thing with hairdryers, and mine's just gone caput, so I'm buying another before ban comes into force.

Just wait - the next on the list are hair dryers!

[Malka is laughing because her hair is so short it only needs a quick rub over with a towel!] :005:

@Jacqui4paws - snap - we both posted at the same time!

Ha ha Malka. My hairdryer blew up a few months ago, and I've been meaning to replace it, but so far have managed ok without it - I've got shoulder length curly hair, so I've been just letting it dry naturally, which is fine most of the time, but still really need a hairdryer.

I read about the new EU rules regarding hoovers, and thought it ridiculous....then I read they're going to do the same to hairdryers, and I thought OMG I need to buy my replacement before this happens!

Hmmm - I reckon I have another couple of weeks before I need to put my hair clippers on charge again and zoom over my head with them on the #2 setting...

...I mean who needs a hairdryer for hair that short? :102:

I keep my hair very short too, so it dries very quickly on its own. I don't even have a hair dryer - on the very rare occasions I need to dry it - if I have to go straight out and it's very cold out - I just borrow the dogs' hair dryer!

OK, I have to admit that I normally cover my head  so very few people actually see how short my hair is, and if you lived where I do, with month after month after month of summer...

[Malka has just checked her 100% accurate thermometer and even though it is 11.19pm here - she has the air con on in the salon AND a fan on the wall above her monitor blowing on her head, it is 33.4°C in my salon where I, sorry, she is sitting.]

I miss those too fieldy, but it's not the dogs who are to blame for their loss, it's the 8yro daughter!

Nah, you're fine. Just get a pair of cheap trainers with rubber soles and do the chicken dance. You'll look like an idiot, but it'll get the hair up.

Things I (don't) miss: not looking like an idiot

The poem “Warning” which was written by Jenny Joseph (1932- ) at age 29.

    • When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
      And learn to spit.

    • You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

    • But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

    • But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
I have just realised that I am wearing a full length cotton kaftan which is black with purple and grey flowers on it! But I do not wear purple and I do not wear clothes with flowers on them do I, so I guess I must be old now!

And I do not miss my youth.

Love it! I've seen part of it before, but never the whole thing.

I like the Marilyn Monroe quote too: 'It's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.'

@Janet - A 1996 survey BBC identified it as the UK’s most popular post-war poem, beating Dylan Thomas’s “Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night.” - and Jenny Joseph was only 29 when she wrote it?

What a legacy she has left for us old ladies [not including you, of course, as you are not old! :D

I miss being able to get dressed like a normal person. If wearing something nice i have to wait till last second to put clothes on then run like the wind and say good bye to phoebe through the window. Otherwise i get slobbered and it dries to look like snot, not very attractive. Normal day to day i dont care though

I don't miss anything. It's been so long since I've been dog free I don't remember what it was like. Can't miss what you don't remember!
