    Then and Now..

I saw this on another forum - just googled something and it came up.

The idea for this thread is to find a picture of any breed of dog back when the KC (or any of the registrations) started as close to the beginning as possible and then what they look like now.

I can't find any back then photos so I'll let someone else start it..

I love these threads seeing the past breeds!

Perhaps it's boring with the Greyhound - they've hardly changed!

Tibetan Terrier 'Bunti' 1922. The TT's in the UK bred since then have all originated from this bitch.[IMG]

I can go back the 1950s, but the dog on the left, Down Home's Anne Revival is pretty much the foundation bitch of the breed as you see it in the West now and there's hardly a dog without her at least once in their ancestry. Photo is from the early 1970s. Interesting enough, her grandmother, Jone's Chow Chow was actually half chow and not the last chow blood (allegedly) that sneaked into the shar-pei gene pool.

And the dog on the right is Am Ch Jade East Catch Me If You Can. He was BOB at Crufts 2011 and a good representatlive of the breed type nowadays. I'm pretty sure there are some people who are surprised how similar the two are.

The earlier dogs are Iron Monkey and Eagles Wing Of Taileh if anybody is interested. They are Annie's great and great great grandfathers.

The first chow imported was a smooth and in the beginning as many smooths were brought in as the roughs. Looking at Chinese Puzzle, she could have very easily passed as a prick eared original type shar-pei from that depiction. They were written out of the standard for many years, which is a shame as smooth chows are beautiful dogs. Thankfully, there were breeders who saved them from disappearing and now smooths are very popular in the showring in Europe and seen in the ring in the UK and USA.

    Four smooth chow females.
