I trend to use only mixed bags which normally have lentils, red beans, butter beans, chickpeas and dry peas plus other type of beans in them, can go straight from bag into stew/soup (fresh meat now always use) no soaking the mix bags I get here in England xxx

Never heard that term used in the US. At least not where I've lived. Beans are just beans. Lentils are lentils, etc. I don't like lentils, but do love bean soup. I remember sitting on my Grandfathers lap watching boxing on t.v. in the early 50's. He'd have me on one knee and a big bowl of chickpeas with salt, pepper and a little oil on the other knee. That was our snack rather than eating sweets.
